The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over the recent invitation extended to former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje by the State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC). The invitation is in relation to an alleged dollar video that surfaced in 2017, which showed Ganduje allegedly receiving bribes from contractors. In response, the APC has deemed this move as a sinister ploy to tarnish the reputation of the former governor and undermine his strong alliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

APC Alleges Sinister Ploy, Urges Ganduje to Ignore Anti-Graft Agency’s Invitation

The APC, through a statement jointly signed by the party’s chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, and secretary, Alhaji Zakari Sarina, urged Ganduje to disregard and not honor the invitation. The party believes that this action is reminiscent of a politically motivated attempt to disrupt Ganduje’s chance of securing the party’s gubernatorial election ticket in 2019. They argue that similar tactics were employed back then to undermine his candidacy.

The APC emphasizes the significant role played by Ganduje in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political project, starting from the primary election. The party acknowledges Ganduje as one of the President’s strongest allies in the North and asserts that their relationship remains cordial.

It is worth noting that in 2017, online publication Daily Nigerian released videos allegedly showing Ganduje receiving bribes from contractors. The former governor vehemently denied the allegations, claiming that the videos were doctored. The controversy surrounding the alleged bribe videos has resurfaced with the recent summons by the Kano State PCACC.

While the PCACC pursues its investigation into the dollar video, the APC remains suspicious of the motivations behind this move. They view it as an attempt to drive a wedge between Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ganduje, potentially jeopardizing their alliance. The APC believes that the former governor’s contributions to the Tinubu political project have been widely appreciated, and they stand firm in their support for him.

It remains to be seen how these developments will impact the relationship between Ganduje and Mr. Tinubu, as well as the overall political climate in Kano State.
