Emefiele Applies For Bail Again

Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has requested the Federal High Court in Lagos to grant him bail on self-recognizance while awaiting the resolution of charges brought against him by the Federal Government. The bail application, filed by prominent lawyer Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN), along with 10 other lawyers, including five Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), aims to secure Emefiele’s temporary release. The case has been assigned to Justice Nicholas Oweibo. In the midst of these legal proceedings, the Department of State Services (DSS) has made a statement linking a lawyer connected to the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to Emefiele’s defense.

In a nine-ground application, Godwin Emefiele vehemently denied any involvement in the gun possession-related charge filed against him by the Federal Government. He maintains his innocence, asserting that he is not guilty of the alleged offense. Additionally, Emefiele stated that he poses no flight risk and assures that he will not evade the authorities if granted bail. The application seeks to secure his release from custody during the ongoing legal proceedings.

Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN), a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), is spearheading Emefiele’s defense, backed by 10 other lawyers, including five Senior Advocates of Nigeria. Their combined expertise and experience aim to present a robust defense for the suspended CBN Governor.

DSS Claims Linking Emefiele’s Lawyer to IPOB: Meanwhile, the Department of State Services (DSS) has made a notable claim, stating that Maxwell Okpara, described as a lawyer associated with the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is also representing Godwin Emefiele in his legal matters. The DSS made this statement on its official Twitter handle @officialDSSNG. This revelation has added another layer of complexity to the ongoing case.
