Kano Emir Restoration Impasse: The Fate of Sanusi and the Future of Kano

Published

on

A significant development is unfolding in Kano as key personalities engage in discussions regarding the restoration of Muhammadu Sanusi II or the continuity of HRH Emir Aminu Ado Bayero. A prominent northern elder, referred to as the shuttle-master, has been making rounds, meeting with various stakeholders involved in the decision-making process.

According to a reliable source, the shuttle-master has had meetings with Dr. R. Kwankwaso, the leader of the NNPP, and H. E. AK Yusuf before meeting with the Emir. The nature of their discussions has not been disclosed, leaving room for speculation about the potential outcomes.

Three possibilities currently exist in this impasse:

  1. Continuity of the incumbent Emir,
  2. Restoration of Muhammadu Sanusi II, or
  3. Continuity of the incumbent Emir alongside the abolition of the new Emirates.

It is worth noting that the third option, a compromise solution, is gaining traction. Muhammadu Sanusi II places greater emphasis on the unity of Kano under a single Emir rather than his personal restoration as Emir. This option aligns with the sentiments of the current Emir and has a higher likelihood of garnering support.

While the original plan may have involved both restoring Sanusi II and abolishing the new Emirates, it seems increasingly unlikely that the restoration would be accompanied by the preservation of the new Emirates. From various perspectives, it appears that the new Emirates may be the casualties of this impasse, potentially before the upcoming Sallah celebrations.

Amidst these deliberations, the hope is that a resolution that best serves the interests of Kano and its people will be reached. Ultimately, the decision lies in the hands of the stakeholders involved, and it is their responsibility to navigate this delicate situation and determine the path forward. May divine guidance lead them to make choices that benefit the greater good of Kano and its populace.
