Lizzo Addresses False Allegations from Former Dancers

Just two days after being hit with a lawsuit from three of her former dancers, accusing her of sexual harassment and weight-shaming, Grammy-winning artist Lizzo took to Instagram to share her side of the story and vehemently deny the claims.

The lawsuit, filed by Crystal Williams, Arianna Davis, and Noelle Rodriguez, also implicated Lizzo’s Big Grrrl Big Touring production company and dance captain Shirlene Quigley.

In her statement, Lizzo expressed how challenging and disappointing these past few days have been for her. She highlighted the importance of her work ethic, morals, and respectfulness, all of which have been called into question.

While she usually chooses not to dignify false allegations with a response, she found these accusations from the lawsuit were too outrageous to ignore. According to Lizzo, the claims seem sensationalized and are coming from former employees who were already advised about their inappropriate and unprofessional behavior during the tour.

These last few days have been gut wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing,” Lizzo said in her message, via Instagram. “My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized.”

Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed,” she continued. “These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.

The talented artist emphasized her passion for her craft and the seriousness with which she approaches her music and performances. She admitted that being passionate sometimes leads to tough decisions but asserted that she never intends to make anyone feel uncomfortable or undervalued as part of her team.

Lizzo expressed her unwillingness to be portrayed as a victim but also refuted the image of being a villain, as portrayed by some media outlets.

One of Lizzo’s core values is the respect that all individuals, especially women, deserve. As someone who has experienced body shaming, she empathizes deeply with others who may face such challenges. She categorically denied any criticism or termination of an employee based on their weight.

Despite the difficult situation she finds herself in with the lawsuit from her former dancers, Lizzo thanked everyone who reached out in support during this trying time. She remains determined not to let the positive impact she has made in the world be overshadowed by these allegations.

In response to Lizzo’s statement, attorney representing the former dancers expressed disappointment, stating that her denial adds to their clients’ emotional distress.

They criticized Lizzo for what they perceive as dismissive comments and a lack of empathy, suggesting that her actions have caused harm to her former dancers and potentially violated the law.

In response to Lizzo’s comments, an attorney representing the the former dancers  said, “Lizzo has failed her own brand and has let down her fans. Her denial of this reprehensible behavior only adds to our clients’ emotional distress. The dismissive comments and utter lack of empathy are quite telling about her character and only serve to minimize the trauma she has caused the plaintiffs and other employees who have now come forward sharing their own negative experiences.”

While Lizzo notes it was never her intention ‘to make anyone feel uncomfortable,’” the statement continued, “that is exactly what she did to the point of demoralizing her dancers and flagrantly violating the law.

As the situation unfolds, fans and the media are closely watching how this legal battle will progress. For now, Lizzo remains steadfast in defending her character and her artistry while her former dancers stand firm in their claims against the artist and her production company.
